Best time to visit

How to think about when to visit Salvador, including Carnival, festival season and quieter months.

Percussion is not decoration in Salvador — it is a language. · Editorial placeholder image — replace with licensed photography.

Salvador has a strong festival calendar, and Carnival is the peak: accommodation books far ahead, prices rise, and the city organises itself around the blocos and trios. If your priority is museums, food and beaches at a calm pace, choose a period outside the main festival weeks. If your priority is Carnival itself, plan months in advance.

This page is deliberately conservative. We only publish practical details we can support, and we will expand it as we verify more on the ground.
